Summer is supposed to be easier.


HA! Not so.

I think we have been busier during the past month than we were the whole school year combined! Hyperbole? Yes, but it has been pretty busy around here.

So, I don't have much to say this week. I just haven't had time to think of something clever so let's get down to business, shall we?

This week I lost Zippo!
I also gained Zippo!
I maintained a total weight loss of 18.6 pounds.

Not exactly what I wanted especially because I started an exercise routine this week. Maybe that means I gained some muscle mass. Hey! I'll take it.

I will also take next week off. I will do my very best not to take the week off from counting calories, because I know what happens when I do. However, we are about to travel to Tennessee for the weekend only to come home just in time for my husband to have surgery the next morning. It's nothing life-threatening but he will have some recovery time. Making sure he is properly cared for and getting the house running again after travel and surgery will be my top priorities. So... I will talk to you again in two weeks. Hopefully that will be enough time for a bigger loss!

What a wonderful week!


I had the privilege of a mom's weekend away which started last Friday and lasted until Monday! My best birding friend, Heather, and I travelled to a really beautiful spot in Alabama. The birding was great and we identified over 70 birds together. I even added 5 birds to my life list and saw a female scarlet tanager for the first time. I have seen the males, which are bright red with black wings, before, but never a golden female. It is one of my favorite birds because the male and female are soooo different from each other.

Heather was great to help me stay on track with my diet plan. I had calculated out exactly what I needed to eat for breakfast and dinner each day before I left for the trip. We went shopping once at our destination and gathered the supplies to make those meals in our hotel room. Then I had the same number of calories to put toward our eat-out lunch every day. That was pretty easy to keep up with and helped me stay on-track while vacationing.

We also walked A LOT!

At least it was a lot for me. When I arrived home on Monday night, I did a quick weigh-in and was only down a teeny bit. That was disappointing. However, I must have been swollen from all the walking because when I weighed this morning....

I lost exactly 1 pound this week!
That brings my total weight loss to 18.6 pounds.
 
I'm happy about that loss. I know it's exactly what I should be doing each week, however right now, it does feel anti-climatic. I don't know why I lost 4 pounds three weeks ago to gain back 2.5 pounds the next week and now have to slowly eek back down to the 20 pounds loss total. It's torture getting back there. I think once that happens I will be happy with 1pound losses again.

I'm so boring.


I didn't realize just how boring I am until I started tracking my food on MFP. I think I could eat almost exactly the same thing every.single.day.

In fact, I do eat the same breakfast. I love MFP's "copy" feature. With two clicks of my mouse, I can copy any previous day's meal. So, every morning under breakfast... click, click. Same old, same old.  lol

I've had a really busy week and have been incredibly low on spoons, so I have been thankful that tracking calories has been easy. I missed one day this week but I was also so sick that day that I only ate a few crackers. You would think I would have had another 4 pound week because of that, but...

I gained 2 pounds.
I'm back to 18 pounds lost.

:(

Wah! Wah, wah, wah, waaaaaaaah!!!

I hoped I would make it through this venture having only lost weight each week, even if only in small increments, and not regaining ever. At all. Not even a teeny, little bit. So two pounds up pretty much was a smack in the face this morning. Alas, it is what it is. I didn't do anything "wrong" this week; I ate my same boring meals all week. I stuck to the plan but the plan didn't work.

Not to worry, though. I am not giving up. Some weeks are just like that I think, and there is nothing we can do about it but keep moving forward.

So, here I go....

Hey Ho! It's a new blog.


Welcome to the Wednesday Weigh-in Club!

I grabbed this blogger address almost 2 years ago. That's when I was losing weight like gangbusters... before one of the most severe pain flares of my life hit. It threw me off track in most aspects of life, not just the losing weight part. The diet and this blog went down in flames.

For those of you new to my story, here is the CliffsNotes version:

I lived with an undiagnosed auto-immune disease for 20 years. My entire adult life has been plagued with seasons of joint pain and swelling along with a plethora of other symptoms. Despite being examined by numerous specialists, I was almost 40 years old before receiving the proper diagnosis of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and "probably lupus." My symptoms most resemble lupus. That's the reason for the "probably lupus" part. However, I also have symptoms associated with other auto-immune diseases, like RA. That creates the "mixed" part. MCTD is like the tossed salad of the auto-immune world-- a little of this and little of that.

My treatment began in December 2012, and here I am 6 months later feeling better than I have since my teens. I'm not 100% -- probably never will be. I am still fighting fatigue and mental fog (thus the really bad simile in the previous paragraph ;) Thankfully, I am free from the daily nagging, aching, all-over-my-body pain, something that I didn't realize was as bad as it was until it was gone.

Now, it's time for me to move into phase 2 of my get-better plan: improving my diet and losing weight. Reporting in weekly keeps me motivated and helps me to resist those little temptations. (I have seriously passed on decadent desserts and awesome carb-filled snacks just because I want my Wednesday Weigh-in to be good!)

I started this segment over at my homeschool blog, Olive Plants. Click over if you want to read about my progress up to this point. I am opening this blog up for business (FINALLY) because I want to get back to a homeschool focus at OP.

So, let's get to it. This week I did pretty well....

I lost 4.2 pounds!
That brings my total weight loss to 20.2 pounds!!
